I first heard this song from William Coulter and instantly loved it. When I read Gail Huntington’s book Songs The Whalemen Sang , I was delighted learn that it was in the journal of the whaler the Three Brothers .

It is full of hope . I sang it by my mother Edna’s bedside as dawn broke over the bay the morning she died in November 2018 , just a week after my trip to New Bedford and the beginning of my research for this recording.
This song never made me sad but gave me strength , as she did .
It is fitting that our dear friends Shaun Davey and Rita Connolly join me on the chorus. Edna loved them both .
